TMJ Treatment

It is estimated that 10 million Americans suffer from TMJ Syndrome, a condition in which the temporomandibular joint does not function properly. If you regularly suffer from symptoms such as headaches, jaw or neck pain, sinus problems, earaches, ringing in the ears, dizziness or teeth clenching or grinding you could be experiencing TMJ problems. The joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull (temporal bone) is the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and problems associated with this joint are known as TMJ Syndrome or TMJ Disorders. TMJ Disorders can be caused by trauma, diseases such as arthritis, or habits such as teeth grinding or clenching. Since TMJ Disorders may worsen with time, the key to TMJ treatment is early diagnosis and prevention. Dr. Gervais and his team at the Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston are keenly aware of the delicate balance that ties the teeth and bite to the TMJ. After a thorough examination, depending on the degree of severity, he may prescribe a relatively minor treatment solution or a multi-phase TMJ treatment plan. If you would like more information about TMJ disorders please call our office to make an appointment with Houston Dentist, Dr. Richard E. Gervais.
