Solutions and ServicesPeriodontics and Dental Hygiene
Approximately 80% of adults have some form of periodontal disease during their lifetime. There is a strong chance you or a family member may have some stage of gum disease.
Do you consistently have bad breath?
Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, has a number of causative factors. Plaque, bacterial infection, host resistance, occlusion, and genetics, in combination or individually, play a role. Many people can avoid this disease through regular hygiene visits.
Here at the Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston, we have three registered dental hygienists with 40 years of combined experience available to help you. Our hygienists perform an oral cancer screening and thorough periodontal exam at each cleaning appointment. Early diagnosis of gum disease can result in conservative, non-surgical treatment for many patients. Without treatment, periodontal disease slowly causes loss of bone support that holds the teeth securely in the jaw. The end result of this disease is the loss of teeth. However, through different treatment methods, you can save your teeth.
The type of treatment you require depends on your particular situation. After a thorough examination and necessary digital x-rays, the extent of the disease is determined and treatment initiated to save your teeth. As a convenience to our patients, we have teamed with a Board Certified Periodontist to help us provide our patients with the finest care available. If periodontal treatment by a specialist is necessary, the inconvenience of traveling to another office for that care is eliminated.
